Another Tibetan Inspired temple. This is based on the Zhaxilhunbu Monastery, the residence of the Panchen Lama (like the Dalai Lama but he heads up a different Tibetan Buddhist sect). This temple was built to provide a residence for the Panchen Lama when he came to Chengde to celebrate the Emperor Qianlong's 70th birthday (1780).

Because the Panchen Lama came to see the Emperor of his own free will, Qianlong felt that it was only fitting that he should provide suitable facilities for the religious leader.
