This large temple complex was used by the Ming and Qing emperors to make offerings to Heaven and pray for a better harvest. The complex is comprised of three primary structures: Qinian Hall, the Circular Mound Altar, and the Imperial Vault of Heaven (all pictured here). 1. Qinian Hall, or the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. I think the name speaks for itself. The temple is 38 meters tall and sits on a three-tiered marble terrace. I couldn't get a good interior shot of the temple because it was really crowded, but the inside is filled with large pillars that represent the four seasons, the 12 months and the 12 "watches" of the day. My friend Peter is doing a kung-fu pose in the foreground. |
