14. One of my second semester classes. The guy in the foreground is Muhammad. He's Chinese, but he is a Uyghur (a minority in Northwest China). Muhammad was the most outspoken student in the class. And considering that Chinese students as a rule are not outspoken his behavior really stands out. His English is quite good - and it is his third language.

Uyghurs speak their own language, study Chinese for 13 years, and if they desire to, study English. Like English, the Uyghur language also borrows words from other languages - English, Russian, Arabic, etc. He was an excellent student and very friendly and likeable.
