This museum has been open to the public since 1997 yet hardly anyone I have met knows about it. When we visited it there was barely anyone there. Of course it's almost two hours outside of Chengdu, but it well worth the trip. The museum showcases artifacts found in ritual burial pits in the Sanxingdui area of Sichuan. The artifacts date back to the old Shu Kingdom (2800 BCE -800 BCE). The majority of the artifacts are either jade or bronze. I saw many of these pieces in the British Museum several years ago, but it was interesting to see them again. The museum's design is based on a deformed spiral and the interior design is quite suitable for the exhibits. |
