This was the largest imperial garden in all of China. It was built in 1703 by Qing Dynasty Emperor Kangxi as a Summer Palace. By 1790 it was as large as Beijing's Summer Palace and the Forbidden City combined. Now most of the parks structures have fallen into ruins and only fragments or a building or two of many of the structures remains. The park is actualy quite boring and you can see all the major points of interest in about two hours. Of course, if you just want to stroll around a park it's fine. We spent too much time here looking for things that were shown on our map but no longer exist.
